Plainsfolk

Drought1a
The Plainsfolk are arguably the population hardest hit by the continent’s isolation. Once a prosperous range of growth and wildlife, the scarcity of precipitation has given it the nickname The Withered Plains. Its vast expanse of grassland is home to many agricultural workers such as farmers, ranchers, butchers and animal trainers. Although the Plainsfolk labour and resources are necessary to the remainder of Ortral, profits are meager due to the poor quality of the goods available. Due to the imbalance of wealth across the continent, there is resentment and jealousy from the Plainsfolk towards more successful races, but on the whole these attitudes are not aggressive.

Residents of the prairies are mostly human, but labourers from other races are welcome if they are willing to earn their keep. There are villages sprinkled around fields, but due to the close proximity of Ferucha, there are no major cities in this region. One does not have to travel far to find a community of tunic-clad humans bustling around their thatch roof cottages. Magic is more commonly found in the prestigious capital city, however hedge witches do exist on the plains to heal and aid the labour.

The poor fortune of the Plainsfolk people has left the society quite superstitious and downtrodden, lest their actions cause further drought. To some this is shown through devout religious practice, while others live increasingly structured and routine existences to avoid further hardship.
