Ortral, or in the old tongue, The Land of Many Folk, is a continent of staggering size. The sprawling mass of land has incredibly varied geography, ranging from arid grasslands and crisp tundra to rugged forests and picturesque beaches. Diversity of the continent’s terrain lends itself to a wide racial demographic. By and large, the different races thrive in their preferred geography and culture, but the capital city of Ferucha is known as The Conflux, where all folk come together in a unique blend of civilization. The university in the capital is renowned for the quality of education from the combined knowledge of many traditions.
The Land of Many Folk is the largest of all the known continents. To the average citizen, it might be considered the entire world. Those academically inclined know that other continents and races exist beyond the vast seas, but very little communication occurs between them due to the danger of the waters that separate these lands. Nautical travel is rare, as those that venture out into the ocean rarely return. Whispers among the Seafolk suggest that the lashing waves attack ships with a ferocity unrivaled by any wild animal, and they refer to the water as though it is a malevolent living being.
This separation from the remainder of the globe leaves Ortral largely self-sustaining. However, the continent’s size has been proven to be a detriment to its economy. Many rural regions struggle from a lack of safe trade routes and resources, leaving their inhabitants on the fringe of the poverty line.
